The Hyde Creek Education Centre and Hatchery includes historical displays of the Hyde Creek watershed, a fish culture display with live fish from the creek and its tributaries, and a teaching classroom to educate the general public on stewardship values. The grounds are naturescaped so that they, too, are a part of the education facility.
The Hyde Creek Watershed Society complements the DFO's Salmonids in the Classroom curriculum by offering enhanced and hands on programs at the Hyde Creek Education Centre and Hatchery. The Education Centre provides a free, accessible facility that allows students to further expand their knowledge of salmonids and their habitats in the field. Students learn about watershed concepts and models that affect invertebrates and salmonids and will (at appropriate times) participate in fry release and some other activities. Please phone (604) 461-FISH and leave a message to arrange a tour. Please note that due to liability insurance restrictions, we can only accept parties of 30 or less (inclusive of students and leaders) at any given time on the Education Centre & Hatchery grounds. If you have more, please call and we will work with your group to ensure a positive experience. Click here to see photos of school tours
