The Hyde Creek Watershed Society is always on the lookout for more volunteers. Without the assistance of volunteers, it would be impossible to carry out many of our objectives. Below is a description of volunteer activities:

Stream cleanup:

Debris collected in a stream clean-up March 2000

Fish Culture: All aspects of raising fish in a hatchery. Egg takes, trough cleaning, counting eggs, or feeding are just a few to name.

Collecting milt from Salmon

Hatchery Maintenance: The buildings and hatchery site need ongoing maintenance.

Fish Releases: Each spring, the smolts are released into the river. We need many hands to help the smolts head to the ocean to begin the salt water phase of their life cycle.

Mother's Day fry release

There are many other activities as well: school tour and classroom assistance, monitoring and weeding of invasive non-native plants, and storm drain marking to name a few. To join the society, or for more information, please contact Linda Dore at 604-944-6464 or e-mail.

We'd be happy to answer any questions you may have!
